Where Maharajas Once Slept — You Shall Reside
Three of the most celebrated hotels in all of Asia were, until very recently, the private homes of Rajasthan's ruling families. Rambagh Palace in Jaipur was the residence of the last Maharaja of Jaipur — a man who played polo on the front lawn. Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, completed in 1943, is the largest private residence still inhabited by a royal family in the world — the current Maharaja lives in one wing while guests occupy the other. Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur — a 250-year-old white marble palace that appears to float on Lake Pichola — was a royal summer retreat so secluded it could only be reached by boat.
These are not hotels that were designed to look like palaces. They are palaces that were converted into hotels — with every painting, every carved archway, every handwoven carpet original and authenticated. The former royal residence of HH Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur. Built in 1835 as a garden house for the queen's handmaiden, it was expanded into a royal palace over three centuries. The last Maharaja played polo on the front lawn. Today, his portraits hang in the same rooms where guests dine. The Rambagh's gardens alone cover 47 acres.

Completed in 1943 after 15 years of construction, Umaid Bhawan is the largest private royal residence in the world — 347 rooms of Art Deco grandeur in honey-golden sandstone. The current Maharaja of Jodhpur lives in the private wing. Guests occupy one section; the royal family another. Breakfast at Umaid Bhawan is a remarkable thing to experience.

Built in 1746 as a royal summer retreat by Maharana Jagat Singh II, the Lake Palace occupies a 4-acre island in the middle of Lake Pichola. It is reached only by boat. The white marble walls, 83 rooms and suites, and a lotus pool visible from the dining room have made it — by near-universal consensus — the most romantic hotel in India. And one of the most romantic in the world.

Every phase is fully customisable. The durations below are recommendations — adjusted based on your preferences, energy, and available time.
Arrive at Jaipur International Airport. Your Sanoli driver meets you and transfers you to Rambagh Palace. Check-in to your suite. The rest of the day at leisure — explore the hotel's gardens, polo grounds, and the spa that occupies the former royal squash court.
Sightseeing: Private morning visit to Amber Fort before public opening. Hawa Mahal, City Palace and royal museum, Jantar Mantar. Private gemstone atelier visit. Optional hot air balloon at sunrise (October–April).
Hidden gem: Samode Palace — 45 minutes from Jaipur, a 500-year-old palace with hand-painted reception halls most tourists never find.
Arrive at Umaid Bhawan Palace — a building so large that arriving guests sometimes mistake the driveway for a road. The Art Deco interior, the underground swimming pool, and the private museum of the royal family's artefacts are extraordinary. The current Maharaja's wing is visible across the gardens.
Sightseeing: Private historian's tour of Mehrangarh Fort — including the royal handprints in the gate and sections not open to standard visitors. Jaswant Thada marble cenotaph. Sunrise walk through the blue lanes of the old city with a local guide.
Half-day option: Bishnoi village visit — where blackbucks and peacocks walk freely among the houses, protected by a 300-year-old environmental tradition.
The boat ride from the Udaipur shore to the Taj Lake Palace — a 3-minute crossing across Lake Pichola — is one of the great arrival moments in travel. The island palace appears entirely surrounded by water, with the City Palace visible on one side and the Aravalli Hills on the other.
Sightseeing: City Palace and crystal gallery. Private sunset boat on Lake Pichola. Folk dance performance at Bagore ki Haveli on the lakefront. Private moonlit boat and dinner.
Half-day option: Ranakpur Jain Temples — 100 km into the Aravalli hills, 1,444 individually carved marble columns, no two identical. The most beautiful building most visitors to Udaipur never see.
Delhi + Taj Mahal (2–3 days): Begin in Delhi with a stay at Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi, then drive to the Taj Mahal in Agra before continuing to Jaipur. This creates a complete royal corridor from the Mughal to the Rajput.
Ranthambore Tiger Safari (2 nights): From Jaipur, 3 hours south by road. Stay at Taj Sawai Madhopur Lodge. Jeep safaris twice daily into Ranthambore National Park for Bengal tiger sightings.
Jaisalmer Desert Extension (2–3 nights): Continue from Jodhpur to the Golden City. Stay at Suryagarh — a luxury desert fortress hotel. Sunrise camel safari, private desert camp under the stars, Jaisalmer Fort living city exploration.
Polo lesson + private fort picnic: A private morning at a Jaipur heritage polo ground, followed by a picnic lunch inside the Amber Fort grounds — arranged with the fort heritage authority for exclusive guests.
